Abstract painting

All paintings with simplified or distorted forms, or using unnatural colors, were once considered abstract. Today this art concept tends to be clearly non-objective or non-figurative.  With vintage work, the borderline between non-objective paintings, or non-figurative, and 'figurative' painting becomes particularly vague and keeping a coherent policy is tricky.

British origin - watercolor on paper, fourth qauarter 20th centruy; signed M. Norton

    Blot and flow

A modern work in watercolor on paper, signed by the artist and set in the original glazed frame. Overall size is 12.6 x 15.7"

This daring watercolor is by a certain Margaret Norton, whom we unfortunately can't place further, and is dated 1984. The running paint evidently brings stalks to mind and flowers as subject, yet the impression goes beyond the naturalistic.

British origin - monotype print/drawing, mixed technique, fourth quarter 20th century, illegible signature

    Octopus

Black ink and charcoal on etched vellum paper, signed by the artist and set in a contemporary glazed frame. Overall size is 17.7 x 16.5"

This superb work in sharply delineated black and gray tones seems to be a work of a certain "Pearce", judging by the pencil signature at the bottom right. It's swirling lines brings inevitably an octopus or a mammoth to mind. Probably 1990's.
