Ref 295 Octopus
Abstract painting, size with frame 17.7 x 16.5", fourth quarter 20th century, illegibly signed A work in a profusion of grey tones with smooth and swirling forms and unsymmetrical emphasis. The image brings evident pictorial figurative connotations to either an octopus or to a mammoth. Materials: Ink and charcoal on etched vellum paper. The assorted framing is contemporary, the sheet being freely attached behind the glazing with borders showing. Back with protective boarding and hanging device assuring wall detachment. Surface, texture, aspect: Smooth surfacing, matte finish Painting technique: A complex etching technique has produced a basic imprint to which freehand drawing has been added.
