FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions :

Your site is prominently addressing itself to the US market. Can I buy your paintings also from elsewhere, and have them shipped elsewhere?

Yes, of course. Just remember that all sales are done through Paypal in USD and that FedEx tracked and insured shipping will be used for all destinations outside Belgium. Transport and customs costs are included in the sales price for the US and for EU member states. If you are located in any of these countries you can go ahead ordering for the set price through the PayPal interface.  Please contact me beforehand if you are ordering from another location than those mentioned here.

Do you have a gallery in Bruges that I can visit?

No, being strictly a private collector I don’t have a public gallery showing art up for sale. However, you are more than welcome to visit my house and see my collection if you come to Bruges. Please give me some prior notice as I’m often on the road.

What is the “seller's certificate”?

This is a written bona fide statement describing the work of art sold, the provenance, the technique used and the materials employed; further specifying its age and if possible giving the basics of the artist’s or the attributed author’s biography, placing it in its national and cultural context. This certificate is delivered with the artwork.

Will I get an official invoice?

Yes. Customs clearance always implies an official invoice. The exact sales value (the sum that you have paid) will be indicated on the import forms. The sales value is also the value at which your purchase will be insured during the shipping phase.

Will my artwork be in good condition?

Yes. However, you must remember that the art for sale here is anywhere between 50 to 150 years old. Regardless of any other circumstances your work of art will have aged ‘naturally’ and acquired a patina that is an added value and should never be restored away. What’s the use of buying an antique piece if it looks as if it were finished yesterday?

- A normal aging process in regard to paintings with stretched canvas as support:  cracks in the painted surface, slight deterioration of the ground coat (the size) visible when viewing the back side of the canvas, minor or part bulging/deformation of the canvas. Work with a panel or board support gives in this regard more stability.

- A normal aging process in regard to frames: joinery slightly misaligned, minor and/or partial flaking/wear of the paint/gilding (the lower part of the frame is naturally more worn).

These are the charming characteristics of  antiquities. Be assured that all art for sale here is in good to excellent condition, ready to be hung on arrival.

Is the sales price really the final price?

Yes. Except in cases where the contrary is clearly stated, packaging and shipping are included. Your artwork is exempt from US duty on imported goods and the miscellaneous customs clearance costs and minor taxes are settled by the carrier on my behalf.

How long will I have to wait for my artwork to arrive?

This depends on the size of the work and whether it fits, when packed, into the standards set by current air transport regulations. Normally, shipped items will reach their destination well within a week after payment clearance.

Can I change my mind upon seeing my purchase in real?

Yes you can! This is my satisfaction or money back guarantee. However, you will have to pay for the actual shipping and handling costs incurred OR, depending on the channel through which you are buying,  pay a 10% restocking fee.

Within 72 hours after reception (the carrier records day and hour of reception) you should send me a written statement (e-mail will do) of your wish to retract from the purchase. I will immediately acknowledge receipt of your desire and confirm your return right. You should return the object in the original packaging. Once the merchandise is back in irreproachable condition I will refund you the sum paid for the purchase, minus the carrier's transport charge invoiced to me for sending the artwork to you and the packing/insurance costs incurred. The thus deducted amount will always be justified and never be more than 10% of the sales price.
